Harmattan is dry sandy wind from the North , West Africa, that causes two extreme temperatures in weather. typically chilly and dry at night and extremely hot and dry during day. ‘Black don’t crack’ but our skin and lips do during this weather. Sores hurt than in regular weather, however, we love the taste of African Star fruit and black tamarind and they are in season. Harmattan says it’s strong in the first month, be prepared for anything else: You will crack, you will hurt, the pain will linger for a long time, but remember this, an unexpected guest is just what it is; a guest, no matter how recurring, it does leave.
Harmattan representing me as an artist, simply says whether the world is ready or not, my art is here, not begging for acceptance but simply an opportunity for preservation and restoration. Representing me as a human, it confronts my spirituality and sexuality; two things that has taken a while for me to come to terms with.
